Senior GIS Consultant / Project Manager

Position Summary

The Senior GIS Consultant / Project Manager will provide expert-level geospatial consulting, project management, and technical leadership in support of mission-critical geospatial data acquisition, management, and dissemination initiatives. This position will oversee the planning, coordination, execution, and delivery of geospatial solutions for diverse stakeholders, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and aligned with organizational and federal standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the management, coordination, and execution of geospatial projects, ensuring alignment with client goals.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, providing strategic guidance and updates.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and deliverables in accordance with established methodologies.
  • Oversee the acquisition, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), and integration of geospatial datasets.
  • Direct the creation and maintenance of metadata, data catalogs, and spatial databases to ensure data integrity.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement, outreach, and training initiatives related to geospatial capabilities.
  • Coordinate technical teams in implementing GIS solutions, workflows, and system integrations.
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports, briefings, and presentations to leadership and partner organizations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal geospatial standards, data security policies, and accessibility requirements.
  • Mentor and support junior staff, fostering professional growth and technical competency.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Geospatial Sciences, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in GIS consulting, project management, and solution delivery if a degree has been earned.
  • 12+ years of GIS/Project Management experience without a degree.
  • Active PMP certification.
  • Proven track record managing large-scale geospatial projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Extensive knowledge of Esri ArcGIS products, spatial databases, and geospatial data standards.
  • Experience with federal geospatial programs, DHS systems, and HIFLD or equivalent initiatives preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with competing priorities.
  • Active security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain required clearance.

Desired Skills

  • Advanced project management methodologies (PMP or Agile certification preferred).
  • Geospatial systems architecture and cloud GIS deployment.
  • Data lifecycle management, including acquisition, QA/QC, and archiving.
  • Stakeholder engagement strategies and interagency collaboration.
  • Technical writing, SOP development, and documentation.
  • Budget planning, cost estimation, and resource allocation.
  • Training and outreach program development.
